Details:
Yeibichai (pronounced yay-beh-chay) is a progressive rock band that formed in Northern California in 2010. In December of that year Yeibichai released its self-titled debut amidst underground buzz and acclaim from press.

The name Yeibichai was first encountered by founding guitarist Jimmy Tomahawk who regularly visits the befriended Navajo peoples on their homelands. Traditionally, the “Yeibichai” are beings who come to man from the ‘other world’ to remind him how to live in balance with the natural elements of this realm.

Originally spawned in the Midwestern US upon the lifelong musical alliance of Tomahawk and drummer Benjamin Stein, the duo reformed in northern California and joined with bassist Tai Hake and developed a process of songwriting based purely on recording stream-of-consciousness improvisations. Through this ritual spontaneity, the band began to tap into a collective flow of free-association and allowed the music to write them instead of them writing it. The compositions that would become music for the debut album had long taken shape when vocalist Stephen Vincent Ezell joined the band and interwove both existential and transcendental subject matter into the equation further reinforcing the band''s impetus and trajectory. With influences from heavy-progressive rock, melodic and atmospheric subtleties, Yeibichai is a unique musical entity with an undeniably compelling undertone.

The band''s self titled full length debut clocks in at 50 minutes consisting of 8 ambitious musical compositions. Ezell''s bold vocal work meshes cleverly with the sonic labyrinth of the cerebral, groove oriented drumming of Stein, the subliminal dynamics of Hake''s solid bass and the vivacious guitar of Tomahawk. This all congeals to provide a mix of natural rhythm and riffing not often found in rock music today.

Yeibichai conveys a reconsideration of the beauty and absurdities that are the human experience. With song subject matter ranging from the primal abstracts of survivalism to the nature and enigma of consciousness itself, from the meditations upon the forgotten powers of individualism to the irreverent depletion of balance and cohesion with the natural world by modern man. Just as their namesakes do, Yeibichai seek to peel back the thin facade between preconceptions of what is thought to be possible and what is derided as mere phantasm.
