2010 was a busy year for singer/ songwriter Nicole Dawn. Between all of the contests, finishing up recording her CD in Nashville, and performing her own shows, she stayed focused on her main goal: entertaining.
Nicole''s love for music was evident even at an early age. Born in the small town of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, her mother can remember Nicole singing herself to sleep every night. As a child, Nicole fell in love with country music when her grandparents exposed her to legends like Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton. Her biggest influence was and still is Reba McEntire, "I went out and bought every one of her CDs", Nicole says. "I spent hours learning all of her songs and watching her videos, she made me want to be a singer and an entertainer."
Nicole''s love of music continued throughout her childhood as she participated in school choirs and talent shows. In high school, Nicole received a place in an audition-only choir and started to perform in front of packed auditoriums. That''s when she really started to come into her own as a performer. Her parents first took real notice of her talent when her dad arrived home from work early and heard her belting out Aretha Franklin''s "Respect." Nicole''s dad claims "I couldn''t believe it was her, I thought it was the radio!" Soon after, Nicole started performing with student bands, and that''s when her love of performing really began. "Until then I thought everyone could sing, but afterwords someone came up to me and told me I had something special," Nicole remembers.
With a guitar in hand, Nicole has played many local coffee shops, fairs and many bars. Nicole has also volunteered her time and talent by performing for a few local charity events too, including a benefit for Fallen Hero''s.
Nicole has also gained a lot of exposure through competing in a number of local competitions. Nicole battled it out in Metromix''s best of Saint Louis Hot 5 Competition, where she made into the Top 10. She also has competed in a local radio station contest, 92.3 WIL''s Cornbread Idol, where she came into second place. But the biggest competition that she participated in was the Country Colgate Showdown where she made it all the way into the 3rd round. Not only did all these contests give her a lot of experience, they helped make her a stronger artist.
But one of Nicole''s biggest accomplishments from the past year was landing a spot entertaining at Main Stage at the Saint Louis attraction, The Taste of Saint Louis, which had a turnout of over 300,000 people. Kay Sonderegger, the Co-owner of the Taste of Saint Louis said that, "Nicole''s performance at the Taste of St. Louis was outstanding. For someone so young and new to the industry, she made a huge impression on event goers, and the Taste staff alike. We had a lot of people inquire about her - and many commented that they could not believe that she was only 19. Her vocal range combined with her natural and relaxed demeanor on stage and the fact that she played solo was truly impressive!"
