Combining the visions of David Kalkman (keys, vox), Tadhg W Neal (guitar, vox), Danny Smith (bass), Duane Manning (drums) the past four years has seen these artists explore, expand and explode the psychedelic rock canon; fusing it with progressive rock sensibilities alongside a deeply considered musicality.

The first stirrings as to what was to become The Ovals can be traced back nearly twenty years, as Kalkman explains, "Myself and Tadhg have been friends since 1993. The two of us started off playing a different kind of music together, but upon discovering The Doors and Pink Floyd''s first album we had no choice but to re-evaluated our lives, so to speak!" Completing the picture, the two found Manning found over the annals of the internet in 2006 whilst Smith aroused Kalkman''s interest at a chance meeting at university,"I spotted Danny at uni wearing a Clockwork Orange t-shirt and struck up a conversation which has never ended," he muses.

Informed by the artistic practice of such musical revolutionaries as Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Can and Ash Ra Tempel; The Ovals'' kaleidoscopic journeys are an intoxicating collision of the physical viscera of music with metaphysical concepts and ideologies. Says Kalkman,"[as a band] We are intrigued by the vaste sounds of many 70''s prog, psych and kraut bands, and through our music we like to invoke a sense of wonder and the big picture. Tadhg writes poetry and we''re interested in philosophy and literature so I think that is reflected in the music and lyrics."

Due to release their sophomore EP Into The Eyes Of Those That Sleep, in March 2011, The Ovals have built upon their previous effort, 2009''s Innerspace, via an intensely collaborative ethic. With Demon Parade''s Michael Badger on production duties, the EP sees the band move away from the raw, stomping dinosaur grooves that marked Innerspace, towards the more stellar inclinations of Kraut rock. A musical and thematic exploration of stone age minds in a space age world, Into The Eyes Of Those That Sleep is an authoritative evocation of a band comfortable to push the boundaries of their sound to completely realise a singular concept. "We try to deliver a musical narrative which fits each song rather than always sticking to a rigid verse/chorus format," explains Kalkman, adding, "Having the structure fit the song rather than the song fit a pre-determiend structure is important to us in delivering something meaningful."
