She’s walking down the street
She’s a queen
The street’s are mean
But she still’s got the courage
To do her thing

Against the odds of discrimination
She’s been reject people suspect that
She’s a tranny boy/boi

She’s walkin down the street
Can you tell?
Even if you can
It doesn’t even matter
Cause she know who she is and where she’s goin

Can you feel this situation?
Against the odds of discrimination

After watching a documentary on transgendered youth, I was amazed by the courage it took for these young people to completely transform themselves into what they wanted to be without giving a care about what society had to say about them.

Last year the national media began to focus on lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgendered (LGBT) youth dealing with issues related to suicide. But as the media focused deeper on the issues, it was discovered that suicide is a pervasive and ongoing concern attached to youth in this segment of society. So knowing that young people in the LGBT community are struggling with the issue of self acceptance, it was important to me to forge feelings of self respect, bravery, and nerve into this song.

To use a phrase found in the ballroom scene – “they’re walking for realness…” And everybody at one time or another has seen a transgendered or queer person and done a double take. This release at its core is about the power of self esteem and self reliance.
