The song Family Tree is inspired by a true family story. My German Mom''s relatives lived in eastern Germany when it was invaded by Russia toward the end of World War II. Rumors of atrocities against Germans committed by Russian-Mongolian troops led this couple to choose to kill themselves and their five children. I am told they were not especially religious, but I can only imagine they must have struggled with the spiritual and moral implications of their choice.
