Sekou Shagari George
The artist, Sekou Shagari George, a.k.a. Sekou, was born on the island of St. Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands to Clinton George and Julie Donadelle. At a young age, he and his family relocated to the sister Virgin Island of St. Croix. Sekou displayed his special talent for music from early on. At various functions, he would take advantage of opportunities to chant for DJ’s who played various beats and live bands. Sekou eventually began to perform on compilation albums such as Black Star Liner by Reggae Bubblers, several True Vibes productions, and East Bound. After partnering with Soljah, his executive producer, work on Sekou’s debut album entitled, Do Your Best, began at Shekhena Music Studio, with owner Clint Codrington as musical engineer and producer. Sekou’s lyrical style may best be described as “socially aware.” Not only can his music be enjoyed for the melodic flow, but his lyrics are meant to bring about social awareness.
