About the band and influences:
The Red Forest was formed in early 2010 in Murfreesboro, TN by Brad Bowlin and Robert Byers. The Music is a mix of a few different genres including softer acoustic rock and some grunge music ranging to a much darker place. Our sound has been described as being similar to a number of different bands and artists such as Morrissey, Pink Floyd, Matchbox 20, etc.
One question that I get asked a lot is "How did you guys come up with the name The Red Forest?" Well, it started as the concept of wanting an idea that reminded us of the Fall since the music reminds us a lot of the Fall. So after considering the name, we decided to look up The Red Forest on Wikipedia only to find out that there is a forest in Chernobyl that is called The red forest. To quote Wikipedia: "The name ''Red Forest'' comes from the ginger-brown colour of the pine trees after they died following the absorption of high levels of radiation from the Chernobyl accident on April 26, 1986.[1] In the post-disaster cleanup operations, the Red Forest was bulldozed and buried in ''waste graveyards''.[2] The site of the Red Forest remains one of the most contaminated areas in the world today."
Brad was born in Morristown, TN and started Playing guitar when he was 12 years old. His biggest musical influences are Van Halen, U2, Matchbox Twenty, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Dave Matthews Band, Roy Orbison, Stone Temple pilots, and many more. As far as Gear is concerned, Brad plays through a Kustom 212 combo amp, with his Jackson Dk2s (sustainiac) electric guitar and his Alveraz acoustic electric.
Robert was born in Tampa FL and started playing guitar at the age of 13 when he moved to Tennessee. His musical influences range from bands like Pink Floyd, The Doors, and the Violent Femmes, to 90s grunge bands like Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and Soundgarden, along with a lot of other heavier bands. On the topic of gear, Robert plays one of two
hand-built guitars with EMG pickups, his epiphone acoustic guitar, his ESP bass. And, for recording, he uses
Protools, Fruity Loops,and his small collection of microphones and plugins.
