Ellen Martin, vocalist/ actor/ lyricist, began singing at a very young age. She studied at Monmouth Conservatory of Music and graduated from Boston Conservatory with a BFA in Drama/Musical Theatre. Toured nationally on many stages before stepping into the New York City Jazz scene. Her long association with jazz legend Dr. Barry Harris in his classes and collaboration with Burt Eckoff led to this debut recording, "Fly Like This". She has performed at top venues including Birdland, Tramps, Count Basie Theatre, St. Peter''s Church, Harlem Meer Festival, The Garage with Howard Williams Big Band, Merkin Hall and has premiered new works from the BMI Jazz Composer''s Workshop with some of New York''s top jazz musicians.

Burt Eckoff, pianist, has been in New York City since the 1960''s and worked with an impressive list of jazz greats including Maynard Ferguson, Art Blakey, Sonny Stitt, The Drifters, Eddie Jefferson, Dionne Warwick and Dakota Staton.

Charles Davis, legendary Chicago saxophonist , performed with legends, Billie Holiday, Ben Webster, Dinah Washington, Clark Terry, Sun Ra, Archie Shepp. John Coltrane and Kenny Dorham.

Leroy Williams, one of the great drummers on the Chicago scene. He is known for his work with Barry Harris.

Last but not least, bass man, Walter Booker, worked with Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Shirley Horn, Cannonball Adderly, Thelonious Monk and Sonny Rollins.

This session was recorded live on Analog at Sear Sound, New York City on August 26, 2001.
Most of the songs were done in one take.
There were enough tunes recorded for two albums.
The remaining songs recorded in this session will be included in a follow up CD.
"Fly Like This" is lovingly dedicated to the late, great Walter "Bookie" Booker.
