EARLY MELODIC ANIMALS were formed in 2005 under the original moniker of DAY 01. The initial release of their 6 song EP entitled "Spikes Revenge" announced a musical entity that would be characterized by highly melodic songs, performed with maximum emphasis on soul and feeling. Early listeners were struck by the quality of the material and also by the unique emotional power of founder JD PARSON''S vocals and lyrics.
JD PARSONS along with guitarist DANIEL HUDSON would become the foundation of the band as they prepared material for the debut effort. Far from the influence of the city and it''s frantic pace, the duo created a batch of songs that are every bit as expressive as they are accessible. In fact, the huge commercial potential of the band seems to stem directly from the universal appeal of the themes contained in Parson''s lyrics. And then there''s the hooks. Songs like "Empty" seem familiar the first time you hear them, and echo in your head for days after first listening.
When at last the song list was complete the duo set out in search of a producer who could bring out the organic quality of the songs and capture the emotional power of Parson''s vocal performance. The Duo finally settled upon RIZ STORY. Story, who also took up bass guitar duties, is known for his overall musicality and prowess as a writer and arranger. Still needing a drummer to round out the band, Story recruited legendary percussionist STEVEN PERKINS to perform on the entire record. The resulting rhythm section of Perkins and Story would provide the idyllic backing tracks for the exceptional material.
When at last the band emerged from the studio it was clear that they had hit pay dirt. They decided to call the album "Day 01". The sound draws upon influences so varied that it is impossible to pin point, and yet, there''s no denying that several songs have major radio potential. It''s this balance of song writing and artistry that in the end define EMA. From musicians with a deep commitment to being a band that makes a difference comes a music that is meant for everyone.
