Details:
“Zach is a young musician who could possibly mark the return of the singer/songwriter to Country Music, by boldly stepping well outside of it’s current boundaries and back into it’s angst-filled story telling past. A past with an ''outlaw'' rock and roll edge dangerously combined with the stark self awareness of a great folk writer, a past devoid of line dancing, cheese and bubblegum. A past, and also a future, teaming instead with the consciousness and struggle of the intelligent working American. Zach is well on his way to developing a quintessential country voice, a little ''Haggard,'' a little ''Jennings'' crossed with the soul wrenching power and emotion of ''Springsteen.'' In my experience you have to be born with that sort of thing, like songwriting, it can only be developed and not created and so it is with Zach. His live show, like all the greats, is the only way to truly experience this new voice in American music.”

Zach DuBois is a firm believer that everything “Happens for a Reason.” The title track from the country music singer/songwriter’s debut EP, "Happens for a Reason – EP," explains how disappointments and heartbreak in his own life have acted as blessings in disguise, leading him to discover his life’s passion – music.

Entering into his senior year of high school, DuBois was poised to become the starting quarterback of his high school football team, the defending 2A state champions in the state of Indiana; however, as his baseball season ended his junior year, DuBois began experiencing severe back pain. After seeing a specialist, DuBois discovered that he had suffered a stress fracture in one of the vertebra in his lower back. While the injury was a setback, DuBois was eventually able to regain his starting spot, with the wearing a bulky back brace. The week before two-a-day practices, however, another health complication arose. After complaining of constant fatigue and a nagging sore throat, DuBois discovered that he had mononucleosis (commonly referred to as mono) and would be forced to sit out of physical activity for at least a month. With the first game of the season only three weeks away, this proved to be too much for DuBois to overcome, and he was forced to accept a role as a backup.

It was during this trying time that DuBois made a decision that would forever change the course of his life. While watching GAC one day (forced to stay at home during a two-a-day football practice, ironically enough) DuBois saw the video for Dierks Bentley’s, “Settle for a Slowdown.” At one point in the video, Bentley plays a portion of the song acoustically, and it was this part of the video which inspired DuBois to dig out his dad’s old guitar and begin to teach himself how to play. He hasn’t stopped playing since.

As a songwriter, DuBois finds inspiration in his modest, small-town up-bringing. Born and raised outside of Elkhart, Indiana on a family farm, DuBois grew up in a house located on the opposite end of a cornfield from his grandparents. He credits his tight-knit family and the strong faith and values instilled in him as essential cornerstones to the foundation of his music and his life.

In order to share his music, mostly with his family and close friends, DuBois began posting videos of his original songs, as well as covers, on youtube. After receiving positive feedback and support from family and friends, he continued to record videos of himself performing in front of his Flip VideoTM camcorder in his college dorm room. He says that he felt really awkward posting the videos to youtube (he didn''t want to be considered “that guy”); however he ignored his own apprehensions and his videos have now received over 105,000+ views (as of Feb 15th, 2011) and his most popular video, a cover of Kenny Chesney’s “Somewhere with You,” has received over 67,000+ views (as of Feb. 15th, 2011). DuBois is still in awe of how many people have watched his videos.

“All of the support from fans has been amazing,” DuBois says. “People from all across the country have shared their support for my music…I’ve even gotten comments from people in New Zealand and Norway. The internet is crazy!”

Hoping to ride the momentum of his youtube success, DuBois plans to release "Happens for a Reason" on March 8th of 2011. The 5 song debut EP takes listeners on a journey through the “ups and downs…of this crazy game called life,” (lyrics to the opening track, “Livin’ & Lovin’”), and includes the first 5 songs that he wrote. Currently, DuBois has written/co-written close to 20 songs, and plans on releasing a full studio album by the end of the year. DuBois hopes to continue to gain fans and support as he begins touring around the Midwest and the South.
