ON THIER MOST ANTICIPATED NEW MUSICAL RELEASE,
CAROL LIPNIK AND SPOOKARAMA DRAW INSPIRATION FROM AN UNLIKELY CONVERGENCE OF THE SUFI POETRY OF RUMI AND 50’S HORROR MOVIE MONSTERS, FEATURING DRED SCOTT, RICHARD JULIAN, JIM CAMPILONGO, TIM LUNTZEL AND A CAST OF CHARACTERS THAT MESMERIZE.

“Judge my wings by the beauty of your candle” sings the moth as it ecstatically dives into the flame.

Known for her thrilling 4-octave voice and exquisitely crafted songs, the one and only Siren of Song presents her most anticipated collection of authentic Coney Island Parlor Punk to date. A rich and compelling musical experience, M.O.T.H. (an acronym for Matters of the Heart) delivers the carnivalesque thrills and heartbreaking chills that this tenderly complex artist is known for in her live shows -- and then some.

Produced by the notoriously-talented multi-instrumentalist Dred Scott with Lipnik, M.O.T.H. brings together a cast of luminary musical characters that include the legendary Jim Campilongo on electric guitar, celebrated songwriter Richard Julian on acoustic, cool guy Tim Luntzel (Roseane Cash, Over The Rhine) on bass, sultry Rob Sudduth on saxophones, the virtuostic Jacob Lawson on violin, award-winning oboist Mark Snyder, and haunting cameo by renowned vocalist and performance artist Joseph Keckler.

A collection of twisted musings in song on the mysteries of desire and longing, Lipnik draws inspiration from an unlikely convergence of the Sufi poet Rumi, 50''s Horror film monsters, freaks and feral creatures. Opening with the crazed Baroque galloping plea of FIREFLY, continuing with the tango UNDINE OUTWITTED – “When I was a mermaid I tried to pull you underwater but you became the water”, an operatic CREATURE (from the point of view of a lovelorn Creature From The Black Lagoon), the Rumi inspired spell of POISON FLOWER, the bizarrely poignant and epiphanous TWO HEADED CALF (based on a poem by the late Laura Gilpin), an Yma Sumac styled rockabilly version of Michael Hurley’s classic WEREWOLF, the Rumi inspired harrowing title song traces a MOTH’s ecstatic slow motion kamikaze dive into a flaming candle, the odd ballad I AM RECEIVING YOU with it’s short wave radio and Morse code interludes, the rollicking Bowie-esque incantation SPIRITS BE KIND TO ME, ending with another Rumi inspiration, the magnificent spiritual LOVE DOGS, with it’s long empty pauses between each line.
The drama of Carol''s spectacular voice coupled with the mystery, heartbreak and humor of her songwriting, provide for a spellbinding and haunted musical journey.

Vocalist and songwriter, Carol Lipnik, grew up in Coney Island in the midst of its long decline. Her earliest memories are of shyly pedaling a blue banana seat bicycle around the abandoned amusement park (especially off season), staring up at the totem-like, decaying rides. After studying fine arts at Pratt Institute and The Art Students League, Carol opted for the immediate emotional gratification of singing, and found that she had a knack for it -- as well as a seemingly limitless vocal range. She drew from her visual arts training to create a singular cinematic style rooted in Blues, Pre-War Berlin Cabaret, Folk, etc, as filtered through her very own carnival and psychedelic sensibilities.

With her band Spookarama (named for Coney Island’s ramshackle spook house), Carol has enjoyed a loyal and steadily growing following on the New York club scene, performing at such venues as The Spiegeltent, P.S. 122, The Siren Festival, Weimar New York, Galapagos Art Space, Joe''s Pub, The River to River Festival,The Chapel at Green-Wood Cemetery, The Knitting Factory, The Brooklyn Lyceum, and NPR, among others. M.O.T.H. is the band''s fifth studio recording.
