"What fairy-like music steals over the sea,
Entrancing our senses with charmed melody?"
- Mrs. C. B. Wilson, What Fairy-like Music

"Hmmph."
- bipolarbear

bipolarbear, the Lake Charles, LA -area rock band with the name you’ll remember, has been charming melodies and entrancing senses for just a short while. However, with the release of their 2006 album, How to Process Harmful Feelings, John, Paul, George, and…Matthew hope to bring their genre-bending sound to the masses. These four southern guys have varied tastes when it comes to what each is spinning on their turntables; the proof is in their music. bipolarbear, rock and roll at the core, sounds like a little bit of everything.

John, with his compelling beats and earnest drive, serves as the spine of this confederacy of nonconformists. Playing lead guitar, Paul adds color and punch to a catalog of songs that range from floating, dream-like pieces to rigorous in-your-face anthems. George, the band’s bassist, brings enormous warmth and depth, anchoring each composition so that it hovers just-so between intense and calming. Matthew, with his genre-be-damned approach to songwriting, bewilders the listener by breathing life into playful yet profound music. Though these four musicians challenge each other greatly with their distinct musical personalities and backgrounds, there is no fight for the spotlight. Instead, what resonates in each set played is something integrated and melodic. Fortified with the individuality of each essential member, bipolarbear, faithful to the name, simultaneously astounds and soothes.
