Details:
Wassonic is a musical collaboration between electronic musicians Terrence O''Brien and Matthew Poulakakis. Long time friends and fellow alumni of Toronto''s The Ambient Ping, Wassonic marks their first long-form collaboration, improvising, composing and recording what they call "Lost World Music". Presented here then, are three recordings that comprise their self-titled debut.
Terrence O''Brien is a Vancouver based guitarist and producer working under the moniker of Anomalous Disturbances. He has released five albums of looping ambient-drone guitar improvs. He is also a member of the occasional ambient spacemusic group. SADU (Sylken, Anomalous Disturbances & Urm).
Matthew Poulakakis is based in Toronto, usually occupying a basement studio called "Clutter", where he makes music. He has a number of solo projects including Automatic Fats, Salvagesound and Meota. Occasionally these projects release some music and he leaves the basement to play with others, most often in the improvising ensembles NOiNO, Build To Suit and Contrapture.
The Wassonic project began with Terrence playing his guitar and rig of devices into Matthew''s computer. Matthew then edited these recordings and used those as raw material, assembling them into new forms and shapes that became the basis for the pieces on the album. He then added further material to the music, mostly in the form of percussion and loops sourced from field recordings. The tracks were then sent to Terrence, where he added layers of ebow guitar and guitar synth overdubs. The final mix was done by Matthew in Toronto and was mastered by Terrence and Richard Dolmat at Digital Sound Magic in Burnaby, BC.
