November sees the release of a great new vinyl & CD single from the fantastic Dollar Bill. It’s being released as a double ‘A’ side as the response so far has been split pretty much down the middle as to which is the stronger track.
This guy is the real deal. Both tracks are self penned, and were recorded without any overdubbing at all, in real time. Incidently, he used 17 mics on the bass drum! It’s a fantastic sound, but inevitably he will be compared to Sea Sick Steve, which is flattering, but a long way off the mark. Ian Bowerman (his real name), is a purveyor of the rockin’ blues as long as it’s danceable. He doesn’t know the meaning of slow tempo! A Dollar Bill gig is always a special event, and he’s been causing an absolute storm around the London clubs and pubs with his impromptu gigs. Everywhere he plays people start out by tapping their feet and then they swiftly move to an all out ‘Shake Out’. His beat is hypnotic and it kind of takes over peoples minds.
Don’t take my word for it. Watch the poorly edited DVD that I’ve put together. Someone at the 14th Rockabilly Rave, attended by 3000 people filmed it, and we’ve downloaded the 2 clips from youtube. Ian wasn’t on the bill, but decided to pitch up on our record stall at 3pm on a Sunday to promote the new single. Word spread and people left the main venue downstairs to come and watch. What they saw was probably the best set of the weekend albeit with no P.A.

I’ve described him to people as a cross between Donovan and Dr. Ross. He has that very English pronounced diction, coupled with the spirit of the great Dr. himself, which is really typified on “That Don’t Worry Me”. Whatever his style, I think he’s got the talent and charisma to be huge, and his song writing is quite amazing.
Ian is recording a session for Mark Lamarr’s ‘God’s Jukebox’ this month which is being transmitted soon. Obviously he’s looking forward to this, as it’s a chance to get his art to a mass audience, and also the opportunity to work with some top technicians, and to meet Mark, who he’s a big fan of.

Let’s hope Dollar Bill breaks through, as he is most definitely not just another one man band!
