Fusing vocals with ambient streams and pulses, ANDREW SHAPIRO creates a sound world that, according to New Music Box magazine, "blends the minimalist influence of Philip Glass with the moody pop sensibility of ''80s New Wave."

Shapiro''s recording debut, Invisible Days (2003) was named one of the "Top 12" individually produced recordings of the year by Performing Songwriter magazine, which wrote:

"There are few electronic musicians whose work recalls both Philip Glass and Magnetic Fields, but New York synth artist (and musical historian) Andrew Shapiro finds a pleasant place where Glass and Stephin Meritt intersect on Invisible Days. With ethereal-voiced Keisha Hutchins singing lead on three of the tracks and Peter Hess adding abstracted flute accents, Shapiro assays a muted, chiming, transelike sound, where free-form vocal melodies drift over tightly structured electronic figures. But what''s most remarkable about tracks like "Moon''s Reflection" and "Richard Serra" is the way Shapiro builds their momentum, creating lightly propulsive rhythms so memorable that he can break away and try different textures in the midst of the songs without losing the thread. The result is both accomplished and highly enjoyable."
--Noel Murray

Shapiro grew up in Larchmont, NY and later studied composition at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. During an internship at Philip Glass''s studio, Shapiro developed an instinct to merge classical and popular sensibilities after observing Glass do the same with his manuscripts.

Other recordings include his second EP release "Quiet Kissing" (2006) (also available on CD Baby) and his keyboard performances Piano Solo and Soundesign (Ambient Electronic).

Shapiro performs as a soloist, with his group Airbox and composes for a variety of noteworthy film and theater projects. He can also be heard performing his solo piano music at McDonald''s in downtown Manhattan Sundays throughout the year. Shapiro received an extensive profile in the Sunday New York Times headlined "Quarter Pounder With Keys" (May 2005) and was featured as the "Best Pianist in a Fast-Food Restaurant" in the "Best of New York" issue of the Village Voice (2005).

Shapiro lives and composes in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. For more information, mp3s and images visit https://www.tradebit.com.
