Details:
Here are some reviews of "A Reason for Being Alone," the latest release from Brooklyn-based pianist Alex Levin:

Saxophonist Vincent Herring wrote, "Alex Levin''s second release is a true reflection of his passionate musical personality and creative composing. An outstanding recording."

Pianist Anthony Wonsey had this to say: "''A Reason for Being Alone'' features beautiful compositions and great ensemble playing, as well as nice orchestrations from Alex Levin. The music is transporting, like a score for a film that has yet to be produced. Alex is a romantic who, I can tell, believes in love!"

After the success of "Night and Distance," the trio''s first CD, the band returned to the studio to record an album of Alex''s original compositions.

The result was an intensely personal and, in the words of one listener, "deeply inspiring" album. The band is joined by the talented saxophonists Stacy Dillard (who can often be found playing with pianist Eric Reed) and Max Hacker on a number of tracks, as well as the Australian cellist William Martina and guitarist Chad Coe.

Dr. James Busby, an ethnomusicologist based in Brooklyn, wrote these notes on the CD:

"I love the album. There''s an elegance that pervades the varied moods and textures of this collection. The over-riding style is one of smooth sophistication, never cloying, always engaging. I''m impressed by the many colors and moods in Alex''s sound. While he is virtuosic within the confines of the ensemble, I am never assaulted by his (or anyone''s) emergence. He moves beautifully on the keyboard, coaxing sweet colors and moods from his songs. His melodies are well wrought, refreshing even.

This is very involved, sensitive music. These tunes pull us into a world of delight and wonder."

From Alex and The Trio (October, 2006):

"We are so happy to be able to share our music with an appreciative audience, and we feel very lucky to have had such a wonderful experience recording this CD. If you listen carefully, you can hear us all smiling in the studio. We hope that you enjoy the music on this album, and that it brings you joy."
