August Way are one of the most interesting bands to emerge on the Australian independent music scene. The prolific songwriting duo composed of Mobius (cello and vocals) and Omen (guitar and vocals) - have both been playing and writing music since a very early age. Mobius studied classical music and jazz and was one of the founding members of Brisbane band George, while Omen drew his early musical influences from the likes of The Beatles and Crowded House.
Their debut album ‘This Is The Other World’, released earlier this year, is quickly gathering momentum with the first single ‘Here Where You Are’ receiving airplay on ABC and commercial radio across the country. The ‘Here Where You Are’ video is appearing on Video Hits, Rage and several other major music TV networks. ‘This Is The Other World’ hit iTunes Music Store on the 1st of August and was featured on the homepage 3 weeks running and the album reached as high as number 15 on the Top Albums charts within the first two weeks. Also during the month of August, the band received second place in the Australian Songwriters Association Awards for the song ‘Soulfire’.
The two met while at university in Brisbane and later decided to form August Way in August 2004. The duo recorded and independently released their Miss You Already EP in early 2005 with a live concert in Brisbane’s Regent Cinema Building. The Live at The Regent show proved the duos ability to write and perform memorable songs, and make a real connection with an audience. They spent the rest of the year building a strong local following around their home-base in Northern New South Wales, between Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, as well as playing showcase gigs in Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart. Late 2005 saw the band re-enter the studio to record ‘This Is The Other World’.
This Is the Other World was recorded at Studios 301, Byron Bay under the steady hand of award-winning producer Phil Slade. August Ways studio band, made up entirely of people named Phil, helped Omen and Mobius lay down the tracks, allowing the songs to realize their full sonic potential. The album was mixed by Bernie Wedrat at Rockinghorse Studios and was mastered by ARIA Award winning engineer Dave Neil, for Refined Mastering. With momentum building and more than fifty songs to choose from for the second album, you can expect to hear a lot more from August Way!
