COUNTRY: Country Folk, ROCK: Americana

Details:
Some people would call him a singer-songwriter, others a Texas Country artist. Folk, Americana, Alt Country have also been used to describe the music of W. Boone Law. When it comes down to it, he writes good songs and then he sings them well. After many years in the making, his first album Cold Tequila Rain is complete. Mostly recorded in Australia with The Fuelers, this album serves up a satisfying musical and lyrical mixture of 10 original songs.

Born in Belton, Texas, Boone learned early on that his love for the outdoors and natural history would lead him into a career as an archaeologist. His drive to study archaeology cannot be separated from his development as a musician and songwriter, for his travels as an archaeologist provided the inspiration for many of his lyrics.

It was at Texas Tech University in Lubbock where Boone first began songwriting. During the course of his studies, he worked on summer projects in Mexico and Belize, stumbling into many songs along the way. The romance of Spanish-colonial villages, desert landscapes, and border towns inspired him to write songs like Gringo Perdido, Cold Tequila Rain and The Train.

After graduating from Texas Tech, Boone received scholarships to study overseas in Australia, where he completed two postgraduate degrees at the Australian National University. It was during this time that he penned the songs Road Train and Catch the Wind, both of which were inspired by his fieldwork experiences in Australia''s vast outback.

Traveling wasn’t the only source of his musical inspiration, as growing up in a small Texas town led to many other musical influences. Boone remembers listening to the 8-track cassettes of Jerry Jeff Walker, Michael Murphy and Willie Nelson on many hunting and fishing trips during his childhood. His early exposure to the music of these "left of center" country artists have admittedly influenced his songwriting. Following in a similar tradition, Boone shares his perspectives of love gone wrong, fallen childhood heroes, and hypocritical spiritual ideals in songs such as Heard About You, Free-Feeling Cowboy, Willard Borough, and Jesus T-Shirt.

The past 5 years have been filled with many changes in Boone’s life. In 2001, he returned to Austin, Texas, where he happily married his sweetheart, Sarah B. Strong-Law. Together, they share a love for live music and often frequent local music venues such as the Continental Club, the Cactus Cafe, and Shady Grove. After many years of personal and financial sacrifice, they have together managed to produce Boone''s first album. Coincidentally, this new album arrives close to their departure to Australia. In February 2006, they will start a new life in Adelaide, South Australia where Boone hopes to continue his work in Archaeology and reconnect with his circle of musical friends. Although this move is geographically dramatic, they can never stay away from Austin, Texas too long. Boone and Sarah will be back frequently for visits, margaritas, and of course, the live music.
