The 2010 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion, artist Ted Yoder is already well known for pushing the boundaries of this eclectic instrument. His new Christmas album, “Comfort and Joy” does not disappoint. Working with veteran producer Mark Gersmehl and engineer Richie Biggs, Ted’s new album strikes a fresh note with familiar Christmas favorites.
During a recent interview by Micah Schweizer for NPR radio station WNIN, Ted was asked who he hopes to reach with this new release. He quickly replied, "Mannheim Steamroller Christmas!... I think this can be as big as that."
Ted grew up in a small town in Indiana and learned at an early age how to please a crowd, singing 4 part harmonies with his parents and 5 siblings. The love of performing was deeply embedded through those experiences and today Ted still loves to sing an occasional folk song in his concerts. When he was married in 1997, Ted and his wife, Donna, were already dreaming of purchasing a hammered dulcimer, so when his in-laws gave them the money as a wedding gift they were ecstatic! 13 years later Ted and Donna find themselves busy with 6 wonderful children, ages 12 to 2 years, and 2 very large and beautiful dulcimers.
Ted''s public events have included: Aurora Artwalk, opening at the Blue Gate Theater, Gaither Fall Festival, Gebhard Woods Dulcimer Festival, Charley Creek Arts Festival, National Bible Bee, Day Of Healing and performances for CCM veterans Bill and Gloria Gaither.

Ted''s current repertoire includes Christmas music, modern contemporary music, a sprinkling of classical selections, hymns, his own original compositions and yes, even a few Beatle''s tunes. Ted plays contemporary music on an old fashioned instrument, merging the pop sounds and rhythms of today with the beauty of a timeless acoustic instrument. The result is gorgeous, original music and rich entertainment all in one show. It''s amazing what one man can do with two hammers, 91 strings, a few digital toys and a lot of ingenuity!
