What kind of answer do you give that expresses your musical journey ? We thought we had asked a simple question but it was met with a laugh and the reply,
I suppose it''s living life. Looking around. Not being afraid to process and feel emotions from good times or bad.
It''s not just playing notes. It''s playing how you feel. Not in primary colors but using the full palette. I sometimes consider myself more of a painter working with sound than a studied musician who can technically work out a song. I enjoy creating a piece of music, living with it as it grows. It''s a personal thing. I learn about myself in the process. It''s a personal relationship and I see how I change as time passes. I would like to think I am getting wiser but I have to admit I am not sure about that.
Each tune probably takes a couple weeks to several months before they are taken to the studio. Earthly Delights has taken over eight months to come together as an album.
Music for me is pure discovery which has a resonance somewhere inside. After all the tracks are recorded then the hard work begins when I have to sit down in the studio. Editing and working on the sound is part of the whole process but I admit it''s not as exciting.
I''m a bit of a recluse really and enjoy being more on the studio side of things. I''ve been playing now for close to forty five years. On and off, that is.
I think there''s some equation with life''s experience and playing music. If you pay attention you find you know more than you thought you did.
As in any art form the artist is trying to reflect themselves, the soul, through the perceptions earned by experiences. I only hope that I have been able to bring some beauty and that my music resonates in others.
