Nicole-Marie is a singer/songwriter from the Tacoma, Washington area. With her third release, Tragic Romantic, Nicole-Marie aims to step outside of the personality style she most identifies with, the tragic romantic, using the Ennegram classifications. It is her to hope to expunge this dark matter from her soul so that she can incorporate lighter energy into her being. The three most notable songs on Tragic Romantic are (1) Bury Me; (2) Angels Speak to You; and (3) What a Letdown. Bury Me is about grieving the death of a relationship. Angels Speak to You focuses on that familiar sentiment of not feeling good enough or worthy enough to be in a relationship with someone who vibrates at a higher frequency. This song was a dream that the author preceded to pen in 5-10 minutes upon waking up. With the song What a Letdown, Nicole-Marie wanted to demystify the illusion of romantic love that it is so overdone in the media and focus on the reality of disappointment in relationships that haven’t worked out. Once again, this project is different from her two previous albums which are different from each other. Nicole-Marie obviously likes to experiment and step outside the box to explore different genres and ideas in music. With her latest CD, Tragic Romantic, Nicole-Marie wanted to bring an alternative rock edge to her bold lyrics and worked with a real drummer for the first time and an electric guitarist. As a fan of Alanis Morissette, Nicole-Marie wanted to the album to reflect the style of Jagged Little Pill. This album also shows influences from other creatives gifted with interpreting the dark side of life that Nicole-Marie looks up to, most notably Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and Jim Morrison of The Doors. Inspired by shadow psychology, she hopes to translate the darkness that so many feel and let her own darkness dissolve in the light it is brought into. Like an actress that doesn’t want to be type-casted, Nicole-Marie dares to explore all sides of her psyche instead of choosing one style of music and sticking to it. In this way, she wants to inspire others to accept themselves and their loved ones as whole people with good and bad parts.
