These are just songs. Words: written down with pencil and paper, on computers, on backs of napkins. Melodies: sung in cars, in the shower, in silence. Somehow these words and melodies merge to create music that has the power to move us.
As worshippers in conversation with the living God, we know that the power is not in the song itself – but it is in the Creator who sometimes chooses to use music to speak to, to discipline, to encourage and to empower His creations. That is why we have written these songs. At Genesis we can think of nothing greater than responding to God’s invitation to know and be known by Him. If these songs can help us do that, how can we not write them? How can we not sing them?
Our hope as you listen and sing along, is that you may hear truth and catch a glimpse of who God is and how much He cares for you. May you hear a challenge to live as Jesus did and feel compelled to respond in obedience. May you be humbled by the greatness of God and inspired to give Him the praise that He deserves.
These songs were recorded live at Kensington Community Church, in Troy, MI in the winter of 2010 with a group of Musicians from Genesis the Church.
