My name is Tyler Porch. I began playing the guitar around 11 years old, after hearing John Mayer play live at Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Birmingham, Alabama. I was amazed by the performance and style that he had, and then looked at my parents and said, “THAT is what I want to do”. I then received, after fulfilling my parents requirements of all A''s and B''s in fifth grade, an Austin Stratocaster, and thus, my music began. I took lessons at Donely’s Music for a little while, then upon the suggestion of one of my friends, moved to Dennis Fermin, who taught out of his basement. Before meeting Dennis Fermin, I really had no clue what I was doing. I could tell you all the parts of a guitar and the open string names, but that was the extent of my knowledge. Dennis gave me all the routine music theory education, but he also gave me chances to perform, and develop a character on stage. After taking lessons from him, I began to form a blues style with a bit of an edge. I have since heard Steve Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, B. B. King, Howling Wolf, Derek Trucks and many other blues artists, as well as 80''s metal bands like Whitesnake and Def Leppard (courtesy of my mom) which have embedded a bit of an edge into my style. That kind of music is my passion, and what I know, not hope, I will spend the rest of my life playing, and also the music that I hope you will enjoy.
