The first time the members of The BluSoul Band played together, says vocalist Ané Watts “We just hit it hard musically and kept it going from there”. Even as time has passed playing many gigs together, nothing has changed. Ané, Daniel, drums/percussion, Tyler, guitar, continue to “hit it hard” with a soulful, hip-hop rhythm infused groove based approach to the blues. Melding musical influences each member brings to the band, this distinctive BluSoul sound has made them a favorite at venues throughout the Sacramento and foothill area. Art Luna’s, owner of Luna’s Café says of The BluSoul Band “…awesome …full of soul …and brings it at another level…professional and …musically mature”. Performances are dynamic and high energy and keep people moving, dancing and coming back for more. Spontaneity and excitement have always been The BluSoul Band hallmarks since the group’s inception and their set list reflects the band’s diverse collective of musical experiences, from contemporary pop, blues, jazz to R&B and soul.
This fusion of musical styles, blues melded with soul, hip-hop and jazz is evident on their first promotional CD project, aptly titled The BluSoul Band. Yet the six songs mark the group’s musical evolution with its lyrical and melodically crafted original tunes, many stemming from open jams during rehearsals. The band decided to play the music that “just came out” and not filter the sound “so there was blues, soul, hip-hop and lots of rhythmic improvisation” says Daniel and added “that this lead to a musical cohesiveness and groove that is distinctively The BluSoul Band sound”. The CD was recorded live at Def Ears Studio in Roseville, California and produced entirely by band member Daniel Watts.
