Rhythmic anxious pop/art-punk rock. At times moody, but always insightful.

ROCK: Math Rock, ROCK: Punk

Details:
The Transmissions have been making music since the middle of 2002. Two original members, Christian Bienne on guitars and vocals and Denise Duncan pounding the skins, began to hone their aggressive indie sound with a variety of bass players until they happened upon Josh Solberg at the end of 2003. Together, the three began a journey to create a new sound. Taking as cues influences as varied as Television, the Fall, "Agharta"-era Miles Davis, and Brian Eno, they have created a sound combining all the jagged aggression of the best that punk had to offer with textural and rhythmic experimentations, while remaining eminently listenable. The Transmissions create music intended to evoke in the listener the feeling that s/he has awoken on the first day after the end of the world.

Hard and hefty post-punk with plenty of attitude and loads of entertaining hooks, “Over Wires” is a superb debut for Los Angeles-based outfit The Transmissions. Vocally it can be a throw back to David Byrne and the Warholin’ of ‘80’s alternative rock bands. Chord changing and poignant distortion is the territory of the guitars that can be as loud as Sonic Youth but as melodic as the Cure. Garage punk has been taking a turn for the worse recently at least in the mainstream but The Transmissions manage to steer it back on course nicely.
