The members of Terra Australis have taken out the number one position competing against seven bands that were selected to compete for the prestigious award. Terra Australis opened the show with a high-energy 30-minute set to a capacity crowd of several thousand fans.
The annual competition is the last major event during the 10 day Tamworth Country Music Festival and a favourite for lovers of Australiana music.
This is the TERRA’s third award for this larrikin bands lively performances of traditional Australian Bush music.

Terra Australis are regarded as one of the finest exponents of both traditional and unique Australian Music. With a combination of exceptional vocals, excellent musicianship, lashings of larrikinism and exemplary songwriting skills, a totally entertaining stage show is assured.

Their first, self titled, album has been well received with a National Top 5 showing for their first single from the album, Capricorn Rain, which was also a finalist for Australian Independent Song of the Year 2000. The album came in at 22 in the Australian Country Music Annual 2001 Top 50 Album Chart.
Their 2nd album highlights the unmistakable blend of bush berserko and likable larrikins in contemporary and traditional music that is totally Terra Australis.

The experience and talents of its members gives Terra Australis the edge. So, let’s introduce ‘The Terras’…

On Lead Vocals and Mandolin, is Nobby McManus, the man with the voice that turns heads whenever he sings. An ex-coalminer with a long pedigree in the folk / country music scene, Nobby won the C.U.B. Instrumentalist of the Year at Tamworth 2001…
He is ably assisted on Lead Vocals and Harmonica by the larrikin of the lost highways, triple Grammy Nominated songwriter and true wordsmith, Kenny Joe Blake. Here is a man who has a good time on stage as well as off, and is never known to hold back.

On Violin is the multi-award winning musician, composer and producer Mykl Lozin, who has toured with everybody who is anybody in Australian music and has played with many international bands such as The Fureys, Foster & Allen and Charlie Pride. Mykl has received three nominations for Independent Artist - Instrumental Album of the Year in the USA as well as winning two Golden Fiddle Awards in Australia.

On Guitar and Vocals is the ever smiling, Skye McManus. Skye was truly born to music, being raised touring with dad in pubs and clubs since birth, which is why he is so at ease on stage.

Driving the band along is our powerhouse ex-OL’55 Drummer and Vocalist, Geoff Peterkin. Geoff is also the Lead Vocalist / Drummer for 2002 Best Band (Victorian Country Music Awards), The Breakers. He is a drummer’s drummer, whose never fading energy holds ‘The Terras’ at the edge, but never over… The band’s teenager, Adam Peterkin features on Bass. He combines with his dad making the rhythm section of the Terras a family affair.

Winners of the Australian National Battle Of The Bushbands at Tamworth 2002, TERRA AUSTRALIS are surely Australia’s friendliest, good-timin’, larrikin band.
