I can''t imagine that it''s much fun to be in All the Tea in China. The Dallas art-pop quartet have proven once again, on their brand-new "All Ears" CD, that they''re
absolutely competitive with every famous modern
melodo-rock band, from the Police and Crowded House to Fountains of Wayne and Guster - and nobody
cares.
Songwriter Ernie Myers has clearly distilled and has
plenty of fun cut-and-pasting influences such as Paul
McCartney and Elvis Costello. And, along with arch-
musician bandmates Steve Powell, Steve Parker and John Fiveash, he cleverly arranges harmony-clustered songs so they show just enough prog choppage to avoid indulgence while yet underscoring just how intelligent and catchy these compositions truly are.
All Ears contains twelve pristine and dangerously addictive cuts. Maybe the only good thing is that, in this age of internet and satelite music, though most average listeners will never hear gems like "Radio-round," "Under Leaves" or "99%," the truly adventurous audiophiles might ultimately discover All the Tea in China. And it will be well worth their time.

All the Tea in China is full of great musicians, but that isn''t why their new record "All Ears" is worth checking out.
If you can find me another record with melodic moments that resurrect The Beatles (harmonies on "The Calling"), Led Zeppelin (acoustic breakdown on "Somebody Help") and Lynyrd Skynyrd ("Sweet Home Alabama"-ish guitar lick on "Here We Are") without making you want to listen to one of those bands instead, then, well...I''ll trade you for "All Ears," because this band accomplishes the same difficult feat.
Singer and writer Ernie Myers uses acoustic rock, southern rock, eighties rock, and Spanish-spiced guitars to create harmony rich tunes you will certainly enjoy.
