Details:
This mini-album project was born out of a need to give back and make a contribution to this world. Supporting the I AM EQUAL FOUNDATION is a passion to create peace in this world through education.

"LIVE FOR LOVE" (J. Beckett) was written rather spontaneously while driving from Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe in 2007. While passing through the orange groves of central California Jason recalls a moment when the melody and words of this song hit him. They were so clear in his mind that he could see the lyrics, hear the music, and experience the power of the song in his head as if it were playing on the radio already. Excited, he got to his house and ran straight to the piano and wrote out the song in one pass, with no edits, or arranging. The song you hear on this album is exactly as it was written originally.

Q: "What do you [Jason] think the song is saying?"
A: "I think the song speaks about having a purpose in life; it''s a clear invitation to have reason for being alive."

Q: "What do you remember most about writing the song?"
A: " I remember writing out the phrase, ''If you cry for noting else, cry for love'' and thinking, ''that''s a terrible thing to say, I want to be joyful about love.'' It wasn''t until I actually sang it through the first time that I understood what the lyric means. In the great tradition of Andrew Lloyd Weber using ''cry'' to mean ''call'' or ''yell,'' I realized that this particular lyric says, ''if you demand or call out for anything in life, make it love.'' I remember having that entire conversation with myself as I wrote this song."

Q: "What do you want people hear in this [Live For Love] song?"
A: "I don''t want to tell people what to hear or what breakthrough to have. I''m sure there is more in this song then I have even connected to. Because of how the song came to me, I can''t really take all the credit for it. When I hear it, I get something new out of it based on where ever I am in my life at the time. So, I assume it''s the same with everyone else."

"WILL YOU STAND BY" (J. Beckett) was written during a time when Jason was working with the Angels In Action organization. The focus at that time was working with African refugees in Salt Lake City, Utah and ensuring the proper resources to make a comfortable integration into this new culture. So many of these refugees has heart-breaking stories of survival and escape that volumes of books could be written. One night, while considering these beautiful people, Jason started to improvise at the piano - simply playing his emotions. Without warning, the melody of this song emerged.

Q: "Why did you choose to put this song on the mini-album?"
A: "Honestly, this is the song that inspired me to make this album in the first place. The story in this song moved me from the first time I played it. As the melody emerged, I knew there was something here and I had to keep playing it. The story of a family doing whatever it takes to survive is a reality for countless people around the world. I wanted to use this message as the motivation for this album. I want any proceeds that come from it to support families like the one in the song - people struggling to make a life for their family."

Q: "Is this song based on a particular family or real-life experience?"
A: "Probably, but not one that I know of. What I mean is, no one told me this particular story and then I wrote a song about it. This came from my whole experience with these beautiful refugees. I''m sure that there are many people who can say that this is their life story; struggling to feed the family or a child dreaming of having a simple toy to play with. So, this song is for all of them, the families I have met, and the many more that I have never met."

Q: "How did this song change you?"
A: "Wow, that''s a good question. I think it caused me to wake up and take a look around. The lyric, "how long will you stand by and let the cries fall to the night?" was a powerful wake-up call for me. I am one of those people who believes that we (as individuals) do God''s work on this planet. Cries and prayers in the night are for us to answer in God''s place. I had never considered all the tears that fall in the night in hopes that the morning will bring change. So, I decided to be the change however I can.

Q: "Do you have a favorite lyric in this song?"
A: "Surprisingly, yes. I love the statement, ''and if the winds of change will ever bring the peace, that wind is carried in your hand.'' To me, that says so much. It''s a variation of the famous quote by Gandhi that reminds us all to be the change we wish to see in the world. I love that this songs gets to say that in a new way.

"THE LAST SONG" (E. John, B. Taupin) is an emotionally moving song from the incredible team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. At the core, this song is about judgment, love, acceptance, and finding peace. When compiling the tracks for this mini-album, Jason chose this song to tell another story of love that people may not always notice in life.

Q: "Why did you include this song on the mini-album?"
A: "The album is meant to inspire people to live for love that changes the world. This song is, in a lot of ways, a warning to people and relationships about how fear and judgment become the walls that separate us from the people we love. I think the story in this song is very dramatic, tragic, and beautiful all at the same time.

Q: "What is the story of this song to you?"
A: "The main character is dying in the hospital from a relentless disease that has taken him to death''s door. He is alone, counting the moments until he passes when the door opens to reveal his estranged father - someone he has not seen or spoken to in many years. We learn through the lyrics that secrets, fear, and misunderstanding has been standing between them.

Q: "What''s your favorite lyric in this song?"
A: "I love the phrase, ''things we never said come together, the hidden truth no longer haunting me.'' It tells so much of the story. I read that as the secrets of the son that he never wanted to say to his father out of fear. The tragic part is that the secret ultimately is what drove them apart - into years of separation and sadness. It''s a tragic warning as far as I can tell. An invitation to be honest in our relationships no matter what we fear the consequences may be.
