My name is Charnita Dickerson and I am a child of the Most High God, saved by the love, mercy and grace of Jesus Christ. I was born in Washington, D.C. in April 1975, raised in Mechanicsville, Maryland. At the age of 25, I found Jesus as my Lord and Personal Savior.
Throughout my life I had the desire to sing, participating in chorus from elementary to high school. It has been within the last 10 years in which my singing went from glorifying the world to glorifying God. In 2001, I joined a praise team at a church I attended in Calvert County, Maryland, and have continued to do so, as I now live in North Carolina. Singing is just one of the ministries that the Lord has called me to, as I am also a Commissioned Community Chaplain through Crossroads Fellowship Church.
When I moved to North Carolina a little over 5 years ago, I started to hear the Lord speak/inspire me to write songs about His goodness, to share with others. This has been such a wonderful learning/growing process in my life, as I allow the Lord to speak through me about who He is and How Awesome He is. The journey that the Lord has put me on with this ministry has been a very emotional, but amazing experience in my life. Many of the songs that I have written are either about circumstances in my life, stories from the bible, and just psalms that God has allowed me to write about Him and His splendor.
My strength in this music ministry is allowing the Lord to use me with writing the lyrics to so many songs. There are times when I can sit in my room, as it is getting dark, and look out of the window at the sky while my music is playing, and God will just allow me to sing praises to Him. Other times, I can sit outside on a beautiful sunny day and God will give me a subject to write about, and, then the words just start flowing. Then there are times when God gives me a verse or chorus to a song one day and I finish the song another day. It is all within God''s timing.
My influences are my Christians brothers and sisters in Christ who are spreading the Gospel with everyone around them with their words, actions, gifts, and talents.
What sets me apart from other artists is the Lord''s spirit that lives within me. Although the Holy Spirit lives in all Christians and we are all one body, each one of us has a unique quality and role in the body of Christ. I have a unique sound which includes a mix of Contemporary Christian and a hint of R&B.
The album entitled, "Forgiven", is a compilation of songs that the Lord has inspired me to sing in regards to His forgiveness, glory and splendor. This CD is a reminder that we all fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), but through Jesus we are all made whole again and we are "forgiven".
My style of music is probably related to the sounds of Nicole C. Mullens, CeCe Winans, Whitney Houston and Yolanda Adams.
