The ZMQ sophomore CD, Funky Stuff, consists of Zeke Martin on drums, Sean Berry on saxophone, Clay Steininger on Guitar and Keith Jenkins on bass.
Members of the ZMQ list performance credentials ranging from playing under the direction of Bill Pierce and Jack DeJohnette to sharing the stage with such jazz greats as Clark Terry, Gary Burton, Steve Lacy and many more. They have performed throughout the eastern seaboard opening for artists such as Regina Belle, performing at Raytheon, Berklee Performance Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Middle East, Michael Timothy’s in NH as well as numerous other events.
This roster, comprised of a fusion of funk, jazz and jam band, combines the colors of John Scofield jams, Latin rhythms, hip-hop, shuffling New Orleans funk, and touches of R&B in measured doses. Shaking things up and generously spreading the groove and good vibes throughout. Compositions range from the stimulating sound scape of "In Motion" to the driving uncut funk extravaganza of "Funky Stuff" and the calm anticipation of "Smooth Groove".
This ensemble is bringing funk, fusion back to the musical and emotional levels of its roots - the Head Hunters and John Scofield. Horn lines weave smooth lyrical interplay with improvisation and lucid melodic schemes.
