Details:
Born in Hobart, Tasmania, Keith Mason spent the formative part of his musical career performing in Hobart based underground bands (Vodka Party, Karaoke For My Shadow, Kind Winds). His solo project K Mason began with the home recording of the EP ‘K Mason 1′, completed in 2003.

‘K Mason 1′ outperformed Keith’s own expectations, becoming a cult favourite, both in Australia and overseas, eventually spawning a limited edition re-release through Newcastle based label Spanish Magic (Castings, Hi-God People) in 2005.
In the years following the release of this EP, Keith has developed a live performance incorporating elements of his recorded work with his own distinctive brand of improvised guitar. He has toured this show through Eastern Australia and supported international touring acts including Mt. Eerie, Magnolia Electric Company and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy.

Now relocated to Melbourne, Keith has expanded his live show, taking on live bass, and completed his second self recorded release ‘K Mason 2 (Evils)’, mastered by Casey Rice (Tortoise). On this album Keith Mason further explores his interests in folk rock and electronica through guitar improvisation and other home and field recordings.

Self-recorded in a number of locations across Tasmania and Victoria, this time out Keith makes use of live vocals along with his typically outer-limits guitar wrangling. The bed for this it generated from junk instruments found, borrowed and pieced together over the few years of the recording process, all lassoed together into motifs that draw upon worldwide folk and blues styles.

“...treads an interesting path along the fringes of the freak/improv underground and more traditional musique concrête”
“...provides yet more evidence that neo-psychedelia still has lots of space for interesting explorations”
