Kayo Konno lived in the UK for 5 years. She gained a degree in Business Studies at Llandrillo College and studied Music with Nigel Shaw. Kayo is hoping that ‘Dafydd y Garreg Wen’, a song she recorded whilst living in North Wales, will help to raise funds for Japanese relief.
Kayo returned to live in Sendai City with her family in 2009. She counts herself extremely lucky to be alive after the earthquake and tsunami happened and she hopes to help to lift the spirits of people who are temporarily housed in schools and community buildings in Sendai, by singing traditional and uplifting songs with them, and for them.
She recorded this track after being inspired by a Kathryn Jenkins CD and after meeting opera singer Bryn Terfyl at the Faenol Music Festival. During the 5 years she lived in Bangor, North Wales, Kayo sang at a variety of charity events, including Marie Curie concerts, and she was interviewed by the BBC after singing at an International Concert hosted by the Mayor of Bangor, Doug Madge.
Kayo was in a choir at high school, and loves to sing Whitney Houston and Celine Dion songs as well as traditional Japanese and opera, especially Mozart. When first in the UK Kayo joined Bangor Community Choir. She was solo soprano at charity concerts held at Cochwillan Old Hall in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. She was chosen to sing with the Amici Del Canto choir and travelled to Italy and Scotland with them. She also entered and was highly placed at the famous Hazel Grove Musical Festival.
