Long before post production, we knew the key to telling this story would be the music. With little dialogue in the first 18 minutes and many emotional turns, the composer had their work cut out for them. Enter, Jim Dooley. Long lens, jacket over his shoulder, all in slow motion ready to play our hero. From the first spotting session he knew the direction of the score and how the themes would play out for specific characters. It was enlivening to listen to Jim’s nonchalant musical suggestions because they were spot on with what we all felt, but could not express.
Each note from every instrument is precisely placed to create an immersive experience for audiences. It captivates the viewer and in particular, enhances our story with poignant musical moments. Each frame of this movie is a piece of art. Each composed score cue is the finishing touch that turns that art into a masterpiece… Jim’s unique vision and style turned CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA into a museum for all to revel in.
