A keen player of the pianoforte, it is well documented that Jane practiced each morning before her mother and sister woke up. According to her nephew J. E. Austen-Leigh, Jane '' in the evening would sometimes sing, to her own accompaniment, some simple old songs, the words and airs of which, now never heard, still linger in my memory''.
