Australia’s newest pop sensation Jade Leonard brings you a must-have mix tape tune with RUBY, a song she penned for queer icon Ruby Rose.

“Ruby’s everyone’s dream right? She just has to have a song to immortalise her forever. She has inspired a whole generation of queer youth to have the strength and courage to stand up against the tide. Because of people like her, things really are getting better.” says Jade of her muse.

Ruby is the follow up single following Jade’s January release of Funny Bunny, both of which have been produced by James Kempster (Anthony Calleja, Katie Underwood, Natalie Gauci) .

Of her song writing development, Jade says “James Roche (ex-Bachelor Girl) once told me (over a wedding dinner while we listened to the cover band play Buses and Trains), that if I wanted to write hits like Buses and Trains I had to disconnect from the lyric content, make my songs less personal. I sure have written a lot of broken-hearted ballads based entirely on my personal experience since then! While I am completely connected to the lyric content of these songs, for the first time my muses are not my lovers but people who have moved me all the same. I get it now James!”

Not one to leave her acoustic-loving fans behind, Jade again includes a bonus track, joining forces with guitar virtuoso Doug DeVries on the Stones classic, Ruby Tuesday. The duo create an ambience reminiscent of cafes in Rio De Janeiro.

“Doug is the Australian master of Brazilian music, he plays music by my favourite composers like he was born to. This recording was always going to happen and now is the perfect time for it. I was inspired to take a pop/rock song and create a lounge version like so many artists in Asia do, they’re as addicted to bossa nova as I am!” says Jade.

The release of RUBY will be followed by the immanent release of Jade’s EP, an album she promises will please everyone and leave the pigeon-holers wondering exactly which genre to stick her in.
