Sickened by the gradual yet inevitable onslaught of winter? In need of a little boost, something to take your mind off the rain and Christmas? Well, Lahinch based four-piece Serious Mischief have just the prescription with their debut EP. Formed in 2000, the band trade under the monikers Chuck McNulty, Max McFly, Emanuelle Bergerac and Sonny Wolfe. And, as the title suggests, these west coast riddum merchants take playing the fool very seriously indeed. Polished instrumental ‘Serious Mischief (Manu Manu)’ has a late-night spooky quality while ‘Blood, Sweat and Beats’reveals the magical Mischief formula: “It’s not rocket science, just good old defiance”.
There’s more laughs than should be possible in a song about the preparation of chowder on ‘Sonny’s Seafood Chowder’. These Lahinch lads add a finely textured splash of colour to Irelands grey music scene. Irish reggae may seem a contradiction, but don’t let it put you off. Seriously.
