Russ Schulz is a veteran rock guitarist of many styles including rock, blues, fusion, and progressive. Enamored with guitar music early in life, he began playing at the age of 12. Some of the artists that have made an impression are The Beatles,The Grateful Dead, The Quicksilver Messenger Service, Les Paul, Phish, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, Pat Metheny, The Allen Parsons Project, and Frank Zappa to name but a few. Russ also likes Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and Tommy Emmanuel. Through the years of musical experiences, Russ has developed some diverse musical appreciations and what he finds most appealing, as well as technical proficiency, is music that has a uniqueness about it ie. that something or "hook" that sets it apart. Some of that uniquness can be heard in many of his own compositions. Sometimes the music follows convention. Carried At Random is unique in that it starts out rather ambiant and then morphs into a rock improvisation with a Latin rhythm that then takes you back to the beginning. What makes Missed Her Completely different is that it begins in a more orthodox jazz motif and then takes on several different guises culminating in a rock frenzy, then a little Les Paul inspired passage before coming "back home." Out Of The Blue is more fusionistic as well as the uptempo Event Horizon, which appropriately closes the cd. Thanks to Nicole Harder for the fine cover art and the many friends who have helped.
