Details:
Suffice it to say this album has been a massive undertaking, much more difficult then 1:33. This is mostly due to a number of creative decisions: unlike 1:33, where we programmed all the drums and percussion, all of the drums on Nice Way To Say Maybe were played live in the studio by our friend Jay Snider (also the drummer for The 71s). Further, bass was played by our friend Robert Terrill, adding complexity and groove to the bottom end {Robert also gave us the main riff to "Band"). Finally, Broose provided a number of the sideways hooks that sit centered in "Lines of Treason" and "Plow". This was the first time anyone was allowed inside the kitchen cabinet, exponentially expanding the sound and scope of the album.
These songs are both reflective and accusative. "Plow" is clearly about the desolate period prior between 2000 and 2009, while "Anchor" and "Mad Town" enervate the listener with dark corners of the mind. However, "Band Of Your Dress" and "Lines Of Treason" were written, let''s say, optimistically. Finally, "Drank The Milk" takes High School credulousness about life and politics to its conclusion, connecting back to the last album''s "July 4", where optimism and Red State chest-beating was tempered with the stone-cold realism of history repeating itself.
