This recording documents an open jam at Industria Studio in Tucson that was part of an event called Fire and Art that included bronze foundry, blacksmithing, and sculpting demonstrations; collaborative painting; exhibitions of sculpture, paintings, and photography; and dance, music, and fire performances. Some of the 2 or 3 dozen people who made this music had participated in Anarchestra before, but most had not. Among the many recordings I have made over the years of random groups of people playing the instruments, this represents a high point of cooperation and listening to one another. To me, this is truly folk music, made by consensus without preconception or directorship. I was unable to get the names of all who played so I didn''t list them.
Thanks to Marjy Johnsen (who produced the show), Marc Leviton (Director of Industria), Zach Long and Ernest Espinoza (who helped move and set up), Preston (who shot the video), and (most of all) those who made music in the spirit of joyful collaboration.
