Silver Lining, the sophomore album from Will Johnson, has been two years in the making. Produced by David Radmacher (who also plays guitar on the album), and with John Stinson (drums) and Paul Lewis (bass) as a rhythm section, this record shows a tremendous growth over "This Old Town," the debut album from this emerging artist.
When asked about what motivated Will to write these songs, he cryptically stated "Well, I think it''s all in the lyrics. I was trying to write myself out of some really dark stuff, and I''m happy that I''m in a much better place now than I was when I wrote these songs. I promise I''m not nearly as depressing as the lyrics I write!"
Says Johnson, "My first album will always be special to me. It was the first time I really let myself step into the role of a singer-songwriter. But with these songs, I feel like I did what I set out to do the first time and then some. It''s an amazing feeling to see the progression of a song from an idea, to a demo, to a work in progress in the studio, to a fully realized track. The songs on this record are exactly how I''d want them to be, which makes me extremely happy."
So with all of the work he''s put into this record, what does he see as his ultimate goal for it? "Just to have people listen to it and love it. I don''t have any plans of being famous from this, I just want to make a human connection through melody and lyric. If that''s with one person, 20 people, or a stadium-full it''s all good. Mind you, I hear the stadium-full pays better so I wouldn''t mind..."
