Up South is a lively tune featuring sax & guitar interplay, the drums add a second line New Orleans punch to the melody with a strong acoustic guitar rhythm. The title track follows, an African rhythm with a Haitian percussion pattern and a lot of dynamics. The melody is voiced by alto & tenor sax and multiple acoustic guitar parts. Bass clarinet and kalimba add to the texture. What She Told Me features flute, hammered dulcimer octave mandolin, acoustic guitar and upright bass. Waltz for Richie is a jazz waltz in a more straight ahead jazz style featuring sax, electric jazz guitar, upright bass and drums. It is followed by the up-tempo Twilight Drive with congas pushing the sax and electric guitar combination. It has a more urban, almost R & B feel. Canyon is in a Celtic 6/8 time with jazz changes, acoustic guitar, octave mandolin and upright bass anchoring the rhythm,. Sax and electric guitar play the melody, a tune begun on a raft trip down the Grand Canyon. Lost in the Stars is a bossa nova played on nylon string guitars and flute. The drums and upright bass creating the Brazilian groove. The end features a nice interplay between flute and guitar. 11:11 is an R & B with hip-hop influenced rhythm, featuring strong alto sax and a wah wah electric guitar solo. Hat on the Table is it’s own thing, hammered dulcimer melody, slide guitar and octave mandolin rhythm with strong electric bass support. The end goes into a blues groove driven by the resonator guitar, creating an interesting soundtrack
