"I was completely bowled over by Allen Mathews.... His artistry is amazing...incredibly fluent and sensitive playing" Maxine Frost, KING FM, Seattle
This album was the culmination of a long-time friendship and a mutual appreciation for Brazilian music. Struck by the surprising lack of music for guitar and percussion duo, (and inspired by Sharon Isbin''s "Journey to the Amazon") the goal was to create a sound sparse and intimate, stripped down and organic.
Many of the songs on this disc are well-worn favorites of South American guitarists, and are actively performed throughout the world. The composers are widely regarded as some of the quintessential pioneers of the Brazilian solo guitar repertoire. They are celebrated to this day as cultural treasures of Brazil, through such honors as festivals bearing their names and museums marking their homes.
Allen Mathews is a classical and Brazilian guitarist. Though most of his time is spent in the Northwest United States, he has played worldwide, both in solo recitals and with ensembles. While living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he discovered the musical style “choro”, and has performed Brazilian and South American guitar music ever since. More at https://www.tradebit.com.
