Forbidden Love: This is a Big Lou original, written way back when she was in Thee Hellhounds. She got former Hellhound Lee Vilensky into the studio to play guitar on this track.
Who-Va Nagila: Big Lou hopes that some day she will record something so peculiar that she gets locked up for it. This could be the song. The band blends Hava Nagila with Pinball Wizard. Originally Lee Vilensky''s idea, he plays guitar along with Garth Webber (formerly with Miles Davis.)
Talk, talk, talkin'' on the Phone: This is a rewrite of "Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette". Smoking has become so uncommon that crabby folks need something new to complain about it - cell phones, anyone? This cut features the aforementioned Garth Webber sharing the guitar chair with former Sons of Champlin ace Terry Haggerty.
Town Without Pity: Our remake of the Gene Pitney classic. Annelise Zamula shines on the tenor sax. At one point in her solo you can almost hear a bird beating his wings on the window to get out. Also featuring vocalists extraordinare Kathleen Enright (Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir) and Katie Guthorn (Big Bang Beat). And Josh Brody on the piano with Jamison Smeltz on baritone.
Lover Come Back: One of the prettiest of the standards. We added the awesome Chris Grady (Clubfoot Orchestra) to the horn section. Bing Nathan on bass jazzes it up.
Valse Chinoise: We tossed horns and steel into the old French musette classic. And we got Terry Haggerty to add a solid guitar rhythm track.
Rinky Dink: Big Lou plans to make a career out of playing old organ songs on the accordion. This Dave "Baby" Cortez cha cha was an obvious choice. The bongos were David Golia''s (really good) idea.
It''s Always in the Way: This is a remake of Walt Solek''s "They''re Always in the Way". Walt said the song was about his girl friend''s big feet. This version is about my boy friend''s beer gut. Or not.
He Was My Baby: One of Jerry Lee Lewis'' finest moments (She was my Baby). We recreate it with an accordion lead, and some awesome Jamison Smeltz baritone parts. Henry Salvia (Houston Jones band) gives it some New Orleans piano.
We''re not the Jet Set: We redid the George and Tammy Classic. Sure, John Prine and Iris Dement did it first, but did they throw in an oberek instrumental break? I don''t think so.
3 Way Boogie: The old Spade Cooley tune. Greg Stephens plays one of the happiest trombone solos I''ve ever heard.
Amelia Earhart''s Last Flight: This song has been around forever - we learned it from Kinky Friedman. Morse code buffs are in for a special treat.
Blitzkreig Bop: Short but sweet.
