Details:
New York’s legendary rockers Bill Popp and The Tapes are celebrating their 30th anniversary as well as the 25th anniversary of Popp’s Daddy Tapes Benefit with the release of 25x30, a career-spanning CD that contains songs from the band’s four previous albums (Popp This, Insides, Blind Love Sees Tears and My Lonely Mind) alongside three new songs. The title 25x30 represents 30 years of keeping The Tapes together and 25 years of keeping alive the memory of Popp’s late father, George L. Popp, a.k.a. Daddy Tapes. Both milestones were celebrated with a big blow-out that was held at Kenny’s Castaways in the West Village on Sunday, March 13, 2011; all proceeds from the event are being donated to the American Heart Association.

Bill Popp and The Tapes’ first performance was 30 years ago at Gerde’s Folk City on March 3, 1981 and the first Daddy Tapes Benefit was held 25 years ago on March 10, 1987 (Daddy Tapes’ birthday) at the famous CBGB’s. Over the years, the event has raised thousands of dollars for the American Heart Association.

In late 2010, Bill Popp and The Tapes cut three new songs at the Seaside Lounge Recording Studios in Brooklyn, NY for the album, including “Sally Works in a Chinese Takeout.” In addition, 25x30 contains early singles from Bill Popp and the Tapes, including the 1984 version of “Too Many Stars,” which was produced by David Lichtenstein and was mentioned in Billboard as potential for chart entry in July 1984. 25x30 features other memorable clips from the band’s history, including a live performance from their first appearance at Max’s Kansas City in July 1981. Additionally, 25x30 features a 28-page booklet featuring retro photos and liner notes offering an extensive history of the band.
