Details:
Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Melissa is currently based in New York City, immersing herself in its rich music scene and continuing to study and hone her writing skills. Over the past 8 years, she has developed a loyal fan base in Ontario and across Canada, playing regularly in that country''s top jazz clubs and touring jazz festivals. She is also establishing herself in the New York jazz scene and will be traveling to Moscow this May to perform with Andrew Burashko’s Art of Time Ensemble. Melissa has independently produced 3 full-length albums and has been featured many times in live recordings by the CBC and JazzFM as well as television features on CityTV, TVO and SunTV.

Influenced by a range of classic and contemporary singers including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Carmen McRae, Norma Winstone, Luciana Souza and Maria Joao, Melissa has developed an approach that respects and reflects the tradition of jazz singers, while opening herself to new sounds. This is evident on her most recent album, "sliding down" (Sleepin'' Bee Music 2006, Festival Dist.) which features original pieces, arrangements of pop songs and jazz standards, all sharing a common thread of spontanaeity and an adventurous spirit. The album features many wonderful Canadian musicians including; Kevin Breit, Kim Ratcliffe, Alan Hetherington and current bandmates Rob Piltch and Davide Direnzo, who, along with Andrew Downing will join Melissa on a cross-Canada tour this summer to support the new record.
