MP3 Sleproc - Straight from the Art

This album is a sincere representation of urban music and lyrical expression. Sleproc is a musical genius at work.

14 MP3 Songs

Growing up in southern California''s infamous city of Compton, the gangsta rap capitol of the world, Sleproc was influenced by local pioneers, NWA, Ice-T, and DJ Quick. These groups helped to shape hip hop in the eighties/nineties and put Compton and Los Angeles on the map as a force in hip hop music. Though the content of this particular genre of music depicted violence against law enforcement, promiscuity, and substance abuse as an everyday part of life, it still served as a musical outlet for the youth of this era. Sleproc was also exposed to old school R&B artists like Al Green, The Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, and Aretha Franklin. These artists would later become heavy influences on Sleproc''s sound and creative development. He was first introduced to production at a young age by his uncle, Old Dude, who was once a member of local 70''s funk band, RIPE. Old Dude taught Sleproc how to play piano, bass, and how to compose/arrange tracks.
While in college, Slep co-founded rap group Black Whole and started performing at campus venues. He purchased his first gear, an ASR 10 and began sampling records and chopping break-beats which would serve as the construct for Black Whole''s debut album, The Live Element. The Live Element was a sincere representation of the musical montage created by the group''s diverse artistry and musical backgrounds.
While taking a break from the group, Slep decided to work on his own project, Straight From The Art. The Art is NOT a solo album, but a compilation of artists, musicians and concepts guided by Sleproc''s creative vision.
