"IF YOU CAN"T SAY SOMETHING NICE" DEPARTMENT:

I''ve been trying to tell people about John Schott for years . This record is a great example of both his compositional and guitar voices. John knows the
guitar vernacular (from Son House to Bill Frisell) and uses it organically as a unifying element in these compositions.

Charlie Hunter (guitarist, composer)

I LOVE YOUR NEW CD! I just love a lot of the things about this CD. Los Angeles is beautiful. Doom Indigo touches a musical part of me that has not been touched before (this is good!). The guitar in Hollersdale & Avalon (resonator w/slide??). I did want to hear more of the main theme in Purge and Plunge!!!!! (the bop section) way cool! The "Mongolian Scat Singing" (must be Lorin?) - where in the heck did that come from (Avalon)? I love "The World Is Upside Down". Great scoring! Excellent effort. You have made a Miles Davis meets Frank Zappa (yes, there is humor in music) w/many turns along the way!

Mike Wilson [my first (and best) guitar teacher from 1978-1983.]

I enjoyed the record a lot...and you worked with some of my favorite players. I enjoyed the eclecticism and general Eastern European intellectual sensibilities. And of course, your playing was as ingenious and musical as
always.

Joe Gore (guitarist Tracy Chapman, P.J. Harvey, Tom Waits)

I like your new CD a lot. Playing, writing & arrangements all''s very creative and fresh. How did you hook up with that singer? He''s fearless. Ches and Devon are awesome.

Hans Wendl (producer/manager - Tin Hat Trio, Don Byron)

Fucking-a, John, great record!

Rob Sudduth (saxophonist, NYC)

John''s latest reflects the broad spectrum of his musical ideas and inspiration. It is a fine and multifaceted piece of work. I urge whoever is interested in originally
conceived and well-performed music to have a listen.

Lee Townsend (producer/manager Bill Frisell, John Scofield)

Yeah; you should be depressed. How can somebody be making music that is this good and have no gigs or tours? Impossible. I''ve listened thru Los Angeles and besides the fact that it''s brilliant, it''s also full of hooks and things that less avant garde people can relate too.

Lawrence Ochs (Rova Sax Quartet)
