Sincerity is something that has been lost in much of today’s music. Often disguised in exaggerated situations or make believe scenarios, the standards of songwriting has declined. Singer/songwriter Catie Brandt offers reprieve to all of that. “I sing about real people in real life situations,” states the singer from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, or “Pennsyltucky” as she likes to refer to it.
Citing songwriters like Jenny Lewis, Ben Folds, and Sufjan Stevens as some of her influences, Brandt captures a certain honesty in her music. Whether the song depicts a certain time in her life or paints a picture of another’s story, each one offers an interesting perspective. “The music definitely has folk tendencies, but there is always a jazz aspect in what we do as well.” says Catie. “We are always trying to change or tweak something, even if its subtle to make it our own.”
