BIOGRAFIA
Nací el 28 de Agosto de 1979 en San José, mi nombre es Cristian Gómez Vargas. Me crié como cualquier niño en un barrio llamado El Poro en Concepción de Alajuelita. Justo ahí fue donde empezaron a conocerme como Tapón (Sobrenombre que me puso mi abuelo). Asistí a la escuela “Concepción de Alajuelita”; en la cual me di a conocer por ser el portero de la sección de fútbol de la misma.A parte de jugar fútbol, recuerdo que a la edad de ocho o nueve años, empecé a bailar Rap con mi hermano y a competir informalmente en la calle con otros amigos. Luego, esas mismas canciones que bailaba, de tanto escuchar terminaba cantándolas. Esto no lo hacía pensando que años más tarde, sería una profesión para mí. La primera vez que canté en público fue en las fiestas de Palmares, cuando uno de mis amigos que le decíamos “Loco” fue y le dijo al Dj que me llamara para que cantara y yo accedí, recuerdo que al oír que me llamaran por los altavoces, sentí algo de nervios pero nunca dudé en hacerlo. Luego empecé a escribir canciones haciéndolo con las melodías de las canciones de Rap y Reggae que estaban de moda. Así empecé a cantar donde me dieran un micrófono (fiestas, bailes, quince años, etc.), sin pensar que en algún momento llegaría a vivir de eso. Fueron muchas las experiencias duras que tuve que pasar, para darme a conocer en este ambiente y obtener algo de experiencia; muchas veces me quedé botado en la carretera camino a Limón sin tener como venirme, por ir a cantar a un festival en Guápiles o Siquírres, o estar en Limón son tener donde dormir, ni dinero para pagar el bus de vuelta a San José. Muchas veces iba en el cajón de las discomóviles hasta Guanacaste o Pérez Zeledón para ayudarles a armarla, a cambio, únicamente de que me dejaran cantar en cierto momento del baile. Como ven, fácil no fue, como algunos piensan. Sin mencionar un contrato que firmamos, mis padres y yo, con un empresario que me iba a grabar un disco, empresario que al final, resultó ser un mafioso y que ahora está en prisión en U.S.A. (como nos costó deshacer ese contrato). Después de mucho andar en este ambiente y en esas condiciones llegué a conocer a Chino y a Roper que en ese momento trabajaban con RAGGA BY ROOTS y que me dieron el chance de abrir algunas presentaciones de este grupo. Hasta que un día me llamó y me propuso que grabáramos un tema para probar y ese tema fue “Creada a mi manera” mi primer éxito, al cual le grabamos un video, prácticamente sin presupuesto pero que por la frescura, el movimiento, y las ideas, hicieron que esta canción aún la gente me pida cantarla y ellos la corean conmigo. A partir de ahí mi suerte empezó a cambiar, el trabajo me hizo madurar muy rápidamente y empecé a vivir una película que disfruto, pero no me la creo y así tengo los pies bien puestos sobre la tierra. Hoy en día después de muchos discos, éxitos y experiencias inolvidables sólo me queda agradecer a todos los que han hecho que pueda ir logrando cada una de las metas que me he propuesto. Desde mi familia, hasta los seguidores y retractores, desde la prensa hasta mi grupo de trabajo, amigos y los empresarios que me contratan, quiero agradecerles por hacerme crecer, como ser humano y luego como artista y por apoyar lo que hago y lo que haré, porque creo que apenas estoy empezando.

His real name is Cristian Gómez Vargas. He was born in San José Costa Rica on August 28th ,1979. Tapòn was raised in the ghetto called "El Poró" in Concepción de Alajuelita in the Southern part of the capital city of San José. At the age of 8 years Tapón started dancing rap music with his older brother. They used to dance on the streets, family parties, and even at the school, where they were very popular as soccer players at the primary school "Concepcion de Alajuelita’s School team" were they used to play.
. Singers such as Mc Hammer, Kriss Kross and Snow inspirited Tapón to start singing those songs that he used to danced when he was around 9 or 10 years old, and which were his first rap musical influence . Then Tapón started hearing reggae music and improvise his own Spanish lyrics onto the melodies of the songs that he liked the most, and that was the first step for him to star composing his own original songs A relevant fact about his early career is s how he began to be respected as a performer of the reggae music in Costa Rica by the time that the reggae movement was underground, being a crucial fact that he was a young white singers that sounded almost as a professional Jamaican singer, even though he had to faced poverty, abusive promoters who wanted to deceived him, and took advantage of his inexperience and talent .
Tapón recorded his first song” Creada a mi manera” helped by Chino Artavia and Jhonny Roper, both of them promoters of the Reggae Festival in Costa Rica, who recognized and believed in Tapón’s talent. “Creada a mi Manera” was number one hit for more than 8 weeks in Costa Rica, and also it was named song of the year in 1977. After that successful single, Tapón recorder his first album called “Ahora Si” which included songs like: “Quiero un amor”, “Latino”, among others. With this album Tapón signed a contract for two more albums with “Sony Music”. Those albums were “Así Pienso” with songs like “ Vive con él”, and the album called “knock out en el tercer round”, during that time Tapón had already visited some countries like Honduras, Guatemala, Venezuela, Panama, Jamaica , and others. Then the next three albums came along: “”Para el Mundo”, “Sigue Soñando, and “Feelings” with this last album people around the world started to become interested on Tapón’s music, because he mixed up Jamaican Reggae music and latin music which is singed mostly in Spanish , but Tapón can also sing it in “patois” or Caribbean English. This advantage had leaded him to perform a free style with singers such as : Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Bounty Killer, and even record songs with singers like: Jr Kelly and Sean Paul.
Nowadays Tapón has his own label (brand) called Blind Records, and he is producing his own albums and videoclips, also he producing for other reggaeton singers in Costa Rica such as Pray, and Blass & Gonin.
Tapón is still one of the most popular singers in Costa Rica because of his humbleness, “charisma and also for identifying his music with the poor people.

Después de mas de 10 años en la música secular, muchos premios, muchos éxitos y siempre tratando de hablarle a los jóvenes de una forma positiva, cada vez mas me iba dando cuenta que Dios tenía un propósito comigo, y que muchas cosas que Dios permitió que pasaran con mi vida y mi carrera tenían que pasar para poder moldear mi carácter y poder hablarle a los jóvenes y al publico en general con autoridad, de que cuando ponemos nuestra mirada en Dios y hacemos su voluntad las verdaderas bendiciones empiezan a caer sobre nuestra vida.
Yo me críe en un barrio marginal de la capital San José, llamado “El Poro” en Concepción de Alajuelita, en el cual me llegue a dar cuenta de cómo las drogas, el alcohol y la violencia llegan a destruir primero una vida, después una familia y hasta un barrio completo. Me crié en medio de las drogas y el alcohol, que hace muchos años y hasta hoy en día siguen siendo una trampa para los jóvenes que quieren ser respetados en su barrio y que se sienten mas hombres al consumirlos. Gracias a Dios y a los valores que me inculcaron mis padres hoy puedo decir que nunca probé ningún tipo de droga y a pesar de eso en mi barrio siempre mis amigos me respetaron, y puedo decir que no necesite de nada eso para pasar de ser un niño cualquiera de un barrio, al artista mas popular de mi país en su momento.
Yo creo en Jesús desde que soy un niño, pero la diferencia es que ahora no soy solo un creyente sino que ahora soy su discípulo y le sirvo con una pasión que nunca antes había tenido, y ahora se que Jesucristo es la solución y la única manera de obtener la salvación. Mi objetivo es que la juventud se de cuenta de que Dios nos creo para ser ganadores. Que no importa lo que el mundo diga sobre ti, tu crees lo que quieres creer y si creemos que somos vencedores en Cristo simplemente lo somos.
Mi humilde opinión es que por muchos años la forma en la que se ha llevado la palabra de Dios a las nuevas generaciones se ha ido quedando atrás con métodos antiguos y que debe tener una evolución que ya está empezando. Yo quiero ser parte de esa evolución, donde revolucionemos la forma en la que se lleva la palabra de Dios a los que no conocen, enseñándole a los jóvenes que Dios lo que ve no es tu color de piel, o como te vistes, etc, El lo que ve es nuestro corazón.
Ahora soy tercero: Primero Dios, después el prójimo y de último yo. (Mateo 22: 36,40).

After more than 10 years in the secular music, many awards, lot of success and always trying to talk to the youth in a positive way, I realized that God had a purpose for me, and that He allowed some things to happen to my life and my career -and they had to happened - so in this way I could molded my character to be able to talk to the youth and general to people with authority, and when we lye our eyes in God , and we make His will, the true benefits start to fall down upon our lives.
I was raised in a poor neighborhood of the San José’s capital city called “El Poro” located in Alajuelita, there I learned how drugs, alcohol and violence first come to destroy a life, after a family and even a whole neighborhood. I was raised in the middle of the drugs and alcohol, since that time and to the present days these keep being a trap to the youth who want to be respected in their neighborhood, and who feel very macho men consuming drugs. Thanks to God and the values that I was taught by my parents today I can say that I never tried any kind of drugs, even though my friends respected me in my neighborhood, and I can say that I didn’t need none of those things to be another child of the neighborhood, to the most popular singer of my country by that time.
I believe in Jesus since I was a boy, but the difference now is that I am not a believer but I am a disciple, and I serve Him with a passion that I have never experienced before, now I know that Jesus is the solution and the only way to obtain salvation. My objective is that the youth realize that God created us to be winners. It does not matter what the world may tell you about it, you are what you want to believe, and if we believe that we are winners in Jesus that is what we simply are.
My humble opinion is that for so many years the way that the Gospel have been preached to the new generations has been left behind with old methods and this should have a new evolution way, this new way of preaching has just started. I want to be part of that new evolution, where we can change the way of bringing the good news of salvation to the ones who do not know them, teaching to the youth that God does not look to your skin color, the way you dress, or other things. What He really cares about it is your heart
