This song was written back in 1996 shortly after Willie was busted in Louisiana on a simple possession charge. James Dennon Nobles, a lifelong songwriter and longtime fan of Willie Nelson, took it personally when Willie was arrested. He couldn’t help but do what he had always done when something played with his emotions. That was, to write a song about it. So his troubadour type of mind went to work but by the time the song was completed in Nashville it was old news. Therefore the record label and James Dennon Nobles thought it would be best to wait and see what the future would bring.
As we all know he was busted in Texas “He says he’s feeling fine after losing six ounces.” LOL
News of the arrest made headlines, as Dennon entered the local Hattiesburg Huddle House several local fans alert him of the news. Excited, he exits the building and makes personal contact with Pine Belt Records local A &R manager Kip McGee.
We decided to go ahead with promoting the song to local radio station B95 to test the market. When the song hit local airwaves it instantly started phones to ringing. From requests for a copy of the song, to the program director of the station calling and congratulating Dennon about his new hit song. “Leave Ole Willie alone”.
Now the song is being promoted around the world, thanks to Internet, Newspaper, television and radio stations for anyone that is a Willie Nelson fan.
